work

housekeeper wanted
I answered an ad in the paper. A man wanted a housekeeper to live in his house and take care of his children and clean the house. I was about to tell him yes, that I would work for him, but when he told me that his wife was in the insane asylum, I back out of that job. We went back to Douglas Creek to get our belongings and the children and we moved to Fruita.

Mama and I get a job at the tomato factory and we worked there until it shut down.

oil fields
I get a job out the Oil fields. I was a helper for the cook; I thought that job would last until school was out but it hit a dry hole and shut down. They asked me to go to Texas with them but I said no.

housekeeping
I get another job keeping house for a man and woman, they had a little boy whom and St. Vites Dance. I was with them until they moved to Grand Junction. They feed they son rubar all the time, that rubar made the boy get well.

coal mine
I get a job at a coal mine cooking for the crew and also had to weigh the coal and take the money for it. I work there about two weeks. The boss was trying to prove to me that we came from a monkey and I told him that he may have came from a monkey, but I did not, so that job did not last.

ranch
I took a job on a ranch outside of Grand Junction, taking care of the house, and did cooking for the owner. His wife was in the hospital with; I think kidney problems. The owner had been a jockey in his younger days. He told a lot of stories about what happened when he was a jockey. One of his stories was about when they would put him in manure, covered him up to his neck so he would lose weight.

The foreman of the ranch tried to get me to date him. I did date him a couple of times. He asked me to marry him but I said no. He would let me use his car so I could go to Fruita on weekend to see my children.
