Another time, I was driving back to the homestead from Rangely, it had been raining. The road was nearly washed out and I ran into a mud hole and got stuck. I was in the Buick. We set there for a long time. Then Mr. Nickels, who owned the grocery store came by and pulled us out. I went on home to the homestead. Bud was waiting for me. He was mad because I was late, and he needed the car to go to Meeker to his job. He took the car and left.

Mr. Nickels named the spot where I got stuck, Kate’s place. The next things I knew, everyone was calling it Kate’s' place. For along time after that, they would tease me about getting stuck in the mud.

One winter I stayed at Maggie and Don who lived on the Harrison place. I was to take care of her children and make sure they went to school. So she could go to Vernal to have a baby.
