1927

Papa drives us home. He had no lights on his Ford. He drive by moonlight. Bud and I was setting in the back seat of the car. I wanted to set up front and help papa see the road, but Bud would not let me. I sure was glad to get back to Rangely.

rangely smelter
We were in Rangely for about a week, then we moved to Toole, Utah. where Bud had a job at the smelter. We lived in Toole five years; from Oct. 1927 until Aug. 1932 and in that time, we moved thirteen times. We moved into a house that had three apartments. Claude and Martha Workman was living in the front part of the house, Claude brother and mother was living in the back and Bud and I were living upstairs, we lived there all that winter.

tent & car
In the spring, Edith my sister and her boyfriend came to visit. I caught Mrs. Workman, ears dropping on what we were saying. So I made Bud buy a tent and we put it up in an orchard by a stream, up the canyon. We move into the tent.

Edith boyfriend was selling cars, I had him bring us out a car from Salt Lake, City, I gave him a check, and we did not have any money in the bank. Bud was mad about me getting the car. Bud went down to the bank the next day and borrowed some money to pay for the car.

toots starts school
From there we moved to another four-room house, Jack and Clara came out to Toole from Texas and they moved into the front part and I and Bud was in the back part. We were there that winter, that is where Toots started school and Guss was born.
