I sprained my ankle and walk around with a chair for a month. The kids waited on me. Gene was with us and I guess he got tired of eating potato, vegetables that I caned. He stops off at a ranch coming home from Vernal one night and butchers a sheep in the backyard of a mans barnyard. We waited to see if he was going to get arrested for that. Nothing came of it. We were there until Christmas, and then papa and mama moved us into Vernal. I was heavy caring Eva. The last month I stayed mostly in bed.

There was a bunch of boys that kept teasing Johnny coming home from school and he told Gene. Gene went to the kid’s house and knocked on the door and called to the door. Gene was gonna whip them all right there at their home. They called the police, but he got home before the police came. They did not know how to find him.

On March 14, 1937, Eva came to us on a rainy night. Gene and Johnny were there. We tried to get them to go home to papa before the baby would come. Instead of going home they went out and stayed under the eves of the house until it was all over. Ione called them in.
