Bud got us a house in a little town just outside of Vernal, Utah. We moved into a four-room house with about an acre of land on it. He went around to the people and asked them if he could milk their cows for their feed and they did and he rented them out that winter for their milk and got pasture for the horses. Then he joins the CCC and moved to Calif. I think the government gave him $20 a month. He sent us $15 and he kept $5 for himself.
winter crop wipe out
Johnny and Toots went to Vernal school on a bus and Guss and Dorothy walk through. A big field to school. One night they were cold and made a fire in the pasture to get warm, set the man big pasture on fire and burned all his winter pasture for his cow up.
frozen potatos
We raised a bunch of potatos on the homestead so we had potato to eat. We dug a hole under the house to keep them from freezing, but they did freeze, and we ate frozen potato all winter. We would not thaw them out until we were ready to cook them.
