butchSomewhere about that time Toots went to stay with Edith then ended up with papa and mama in Vernal. I do not remember how it came about, but Bennie Smith asked me to go with him to Vernal so he could marry Toots. We made the trip to Vernal. Bennie joined the army right after that and Toots stayed with me till little Butch was born and she went to Texas to Bennie.
Toots kept having false labor pains and Bud and I would have to take her over Berthard Pass to Denver, nothing would happen. Back home we would go. We did this three time, the third time it happen, we had her stay with her half brother Bob and his wife until she had her baby. I received a Telegram from her saying that she had Butch.

During that time mama asked me to let Dorothy go stay with Alvin for the summer to teach his children to talk. Alvin and his wife were both deaf and his two children only talked with their hands. He wanted Dorothy to help them learn to talk with their voice before they started to school, so I let Dorothy go to Murray, Utah. Dorothy learned the sign language while living with Alvin.
