Bud found an old store on Main Street. We lived in it until he got shipped out. I brought an old washing machine. I paid it off by taking in washing from the men who worked for the Construction Company. Toots and Johnny got jobs on ranches around Maybell. The Construction Company sent Bud to Granby to rub down a bridge that was just finest.

We all loaded in the car and went to Granby. Bud rented a little shack for us to live in. The kids and I got a job in the lettuce fields. By then it was getting close for school. I had to settle somewhere. I find a house that had a front room, kitchen, and a bedroom. In back of the kitchen was a pantry and between the pantry and bedroom was a closet. It was in Tabernash; the house was for sell for $125.
