Another time, Johnny and Austin decided that wanted to see if the chicken could swim. They take mama’s chickens and put them in the river and watch the chickens go down the river. They kill mama’s chickens.

George was about one and half years old, when he wondered off of the ranch and got lost. We could not find him. We look and look. One of the Rector boys found him on a hill. George was scared and crying and running all around. He would not go to the Rector boy, so Rector had to rope him, so he could bring him home.

hotel & oil well
That fall, mama went into Vernal. She took her kids and mine to put into school. I worked in the Hotel for awhile in Rangely. That winter I went to work for the Oil well outside of Rangely. I was a helper for the cook; her name was Mrs. Cole. I worked there until it got to cold for them to work and they closed down. That was about Jan. I would catch rides into Vernal, so I could see my children. Sometime I would be able to stay the weekend other times I would have to come back the same day. When the Oil wells closed, I brought the children back with me.
